Does today's modern consumer-culture seem nihilistic to you?

What with the Swedish furniture and unauthentic Mexican-food, I can't help thinking of the meaninglessness of it all. If it is so, then who is to blame; the consumer base for being zombie-like sheeple, or the capitalist elitists for being superficial pimps?
