Trying to emulate lightning damage on computer for students?

I am currently teaching an A+ Cert computer test and i am working with my students on trouble shooting. I have an old computer and i need to find a way to damage it so it seems like it has had lightning damage. i need to damage each component so they can trouble shoot them. how would you recommend going about this. i was thinking about using a 9v battery and connecting 2 wires and touching them to random contacts. but i need something better. Thanks
